UK sea temperature
The winter temperature for UK coastal waters ranges from 8°C to 10°C, the south west peninsula being the warmest. Temperatures start to rise in the spring, reaching a summer maximum in the south west of about 17°C, but warmer in sheltered, shallow locations, especially during a warm summer.

Visitors to the UK are advised that a 'shortie' is advisable during the summer. In the winter, a full 'steamer' is recommended, boots, gloves and hood optional, depending on your bravado.
To compare the sea water temperatures around the UK with some of the warmer surfing locations, Tahiti ranges from 26°C to 29°C whilst Tenerife in the Canary Islands ranges from 19°C to 23°C.
