High pressure and easterlies look set to return next week

A strong high over northern Europe is pushing cold Siberian winds towards us from the east. Lows out in the Atlantic are pushing warm wet winds from the south west. Both are meeting near the Britsh Isles and heading north and there is a waving battlefront running north south that could contain rain or snow and likely to move east and west rather unpredictably. The west winds are now forecast to come back a bit at the weekend

British Isles Surf Prospects 25 January - 4 February 2012
A rather indeterminate pattern makes forecasting difficult

Another storm will bring high winds and big waves. After that pressure is forecast to build to make next weekend much quieter although this may take a few more days before it reaches the north of Scotland. However the pattern is rather unstable and may break down in several ways with local features. The European and US forecasters have very different pictures.
