Real westerly swells and good weather from next wednesday
We are contiuing in a flabby indeterminate area of weather. Pressure will build again for a while at the weekend and into nest week so the weather shpuld brighten and warm up. Another large weakish low developing slowly out in the Atlantic around the middle of next week should start a new westerly ground swell that will start to come in around wednesday and Thursday and should just last into the weekend as it fades. current predictions are that the winds will stay out to sea with light southerlies over the british isles. This should bring much more summery conditions |
|
SOUTH WEST AND WALES (and south western Ireland).
Continuing very small to flat through the weekend and into the start of next week but the weather should slowly start to improve. A new westerly swell should start to build around wednesday and peak well into the medium range around Friday. Light winds should mean nice clean waves with good weather. Nothing spectacular but much better than recently. The biggest risk is that the high does not hold off the low to the west and we get more winds and weather than predicted
EAST COAST (Thurso area, use this and Far NW ).
There are still signs of a small northerly swell that could show at the best spots and tide times but mostly very small to flat
FAR NORTH WEST OF SCOTLAND AND IRELAND
Northerly swells fading and leaving small local wind waves with no significant swell for most of next week the main westerly swells are further south. generally very poor size and quality
CHANNEL COAST (east of Start Point).
Very small to flat swells may just manage to get up the channel late in the week
Activities and Comments.
Sorry for the late posting today but I wanted time to carry out the best check on the long term forecasts. We are away for the week beginning 21st may so it is likely that thus is the last update until monday 28th
The measurement of waves and surf quality is a vexed question and there is a lot of false Macho attitude "the bigger the better" around. This in my experience is not true for most people. There are also those who suggest that unless the surf is peeling perfectly and glassy smooth it is no good. Good medium sized surf in my book is usually in the range of 2-3ft with moderate winds either on, cross or offshore and cleanish faces. In other words the sort of stuff that comes around quite frequently and not just classic days. Small surf is in the 1-2ft region but should be rideable by most (if you can't ride this sort of surf your board is too small!) large surf is in the 4-6ft range and gets scary. If I think that the surf is going to be particularly good I will indicate it clearly for those who only go to the coast for special days.
You are welcome to ask a question or add a comment below. I will try to answer it by the time I post my next report and I will leave the answer up for a few days. |
