Whether you're a beginner, 'weekend warrior', more frequent surfer or even a pro, it's a fact that the fitter you are for surf the more waves you're likely to catch, the better you will surf and the more fun you will have. This excellent book by Lee Stanbury offers excellent advice on all aspects of surf fitness in a really simple, readable way... |

Lee Stanbury is a professional swim coach and surfing fitness trainer. He's currently working with pros including Ben Skinner and Oli Adams, to ensure their fitness levels are at their peak.
Lee writes articles for surf magazines and websites (including A1Surf.com) on a range of surf fitness issues, including swim training for surfers. He also recently developed the Power Stroke Bungee Cord, a really useful bit of equipment to aid your paddling power.
The Complete Guide to Surf Fitness is 120 pages in size and is packed full of really useful information on all aspects of surf fitness. It is broken down into chapters, each of which cover the main subjects including:
* Basic Mobility Exercises * Basic Core Training * Aerobic Training * Swim Training * Balance Training * Cool-Down Stretches
There's also chapters that focus on exercising with certain items of equipment that are not expensive to buy and many surfers already own them. These include Swiss Balls, Resistance Bands and Indo Boards.
My favourite thing about this book has to be the layout - big photos and clear text mean it's an easy read and more importantly you can quickly understand how to perform each exercise.
Another great feature is the chapter near the end on 'Training Programmes'. For many of us our lives our hectic so may not allow us the time to carry out all of the exercises in the book, yet by using one of these programmes, or adapting one for your needs, you can really focus on a routine that's going to make you surf fit.
Other subjects covered include advice for young surfers and also a mention on nutrition for surfing.
The Complete Guide To Surf Fitness is a perfect title as this is exactly what it is. It also made me realise that if I want to get more out of my surfing I need to start using Lee's advice!
You can get a copy of Lee's book on his website, priced at £16.99 |
