We are glad to report that the 'Tedzo' was a great success. This event was held on Saturday 27th October at Woolacombe, in 4 foot surf.

The eventual winner was Paul Barlow from Bude. At the awards presentatiopn ceremony, he said, "I and many Bude surfers have looked forward to taking part in this event, not just for the recognition of winning the 'Tedzo', although a great honour, but because is is such a fun event."

Paul first entered the 'Tedzo' fifteen years ago, and has looked forward to the competition every year since. This is great news, because that's how Paul 'Clicky' Clarke and 'da boys' at the Exeter surf club have tried to market the event. In t he "TEDZO SPIRIT!!" of having a good time.

The 'Mr Lard07 and Mr Baldy07' (for the fattest and baldest entrants) competions went down well, as did Joff and Rob Dixes drunken spiel on the microphone in the Red Barn.

The surfboard (made by lazicka surfboards) was raffled and was won by 'Gecko' Jeff of 'Gecko Surfboards' Useful!!!

Results:
Longboards
1. OJ Freshwater
2. P.Crease
3. C.Grizwald
4. J.Holt

Open Contest
1. Paul Barlow
2. Bobby Horsman
3. Lewis Turner
4. Paul Ashton

The winner of the 'Rich Ramsden' Shield for U16 'Super Grommet' was won by Jess Combs (not Liam Turner as previously reported)
The 'Tedzo Trophy' winner was Teignmouth surfer OJ Freshwater.

NOTES:

This contest was originally put together by the Howmet surf club members in 1989, as a lasting memorial to Jeremy 'TEDZO' Connett and Rich Ramsden, two Exeter surfers who died in a motorbike accident, travelling along the Pacific Highway in N.S.W Australia in search of sun and surf on the 28th October 1988.

Tedzo was the founder of the underground surfboard company, which in its time made custom surfboards for surfers such as Carwyn Williams (a British and European champion surfer) Ross White (English Champion 1984), Victor Hole (Cornish Open Champion 1985) to name but a few... that found success riding Tedzo's boards.

Underground became an internationally recognised company; Tedzo himself had been mentored by various prolific Australian shapers such as Bruce Smith, Terry Glass and Craig Hughes of Ulladulla surfboards in southern Australia.

On his last fateful trip Tedzo had been contracted to shape and glass his innovative isometric boards for a well-known Gold Coast surfboard manufacturer.

The Howmet surf club made a pledge to run the contest for 5 years, and in 1994 the newly formed Exeter surf club took over the running and organisation of the contest and have run it every year since to the present day.

The Exeter surf club have made sure that the original spirit of the contest has remained the same as it was back in 1989, this being a GEEK (Like myself) Friendly contest were all are welcome - old dudes to young grommets, longboarders, shortboarders, boogie boarders, sand castle makers!!! It doesn't matter. It's the taking part and because the contest is so widely known in Devon and north Cornwall the local surfing industry heavily supports the contest hence there is always an abundance of prizes to give-away for every category imaginable.
