 Russell Winter takes win at Saltburn Open

Hundreds of spectators turned out this weekend (Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th May) at Saltburn for round 1 of the UK Professional Surf Tour. The event had a real international flavor as competitors from Australia, France and South Africa joined the best of the UK to compete. |

Saturday saw a small swell of waves but with the promise of better conditions the event was held over until the Sunday. This proved the right decision as the surf improved with a swell consistently breaking all day
The full competition was run through-out the day with all 4 categories of competition completed.
 The current Men’s Pro Champion, Russell Winter, won the Men’s competition with Gordon Fontaine (France) in second place. Russell said afterwards: "Great contest, looking forward to coming back next year".
The Women’s Pro event was won by Holly Donnelly, also from Newquay, who said: " I enjoyed the event and thank the people of Saltburn for their support."
In the Men’s Pro division- local Newcastle surfer Sam Lamiroy competed and finished in 5th position.
Dave Reed from the UK Pro Surf tour said: "I would like to thank Redcar and Cleveland Council for supporting this event. Great to see a fantastic display of surfing in these conditions."
