Bundoran to host ASP Europe speciality event this summer
Barefoot Wines in association with Billabong will host ASP Europe’s first speciality event in 2012: an expression session with a 3,000€ prize-purse in Bundoran, Ireland during the Sea Sessions festival from June 29 to July 1. The invitational event will host some of the UK and Europe’s best free surfers as well as well-known ASP competitors.

A new world surfing record has been recognized at the Billabong XXL Global Big Wave Awards fueled by Monster Energy, with Hawaiian surfer Garrett McNamara (Haleiwa, Hawaii) winning the Biggest Wave Award for a wave measured by experts as 78 feet.

Watergate Bay hosts 40th Anniversary of English Surfing Championships
The Extreme Academy, Watergate Bay will again play host to one of Europe’s longest-running surfing competitions in May. The best surfers from across the country will flock to the famous stretch of Cornish sand to compete for the title of English champion over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend of 5-7 May 2012.

SAS Announce 2012 Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue Project
Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) is proud to announce the 5th annual Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue Project, kicking off in Bournemouth Hengistbury Head on Saturday, April 14th. British Junior Surf Team on a fundraising mission
Today saw members of the British Junior Surf Team getting stuck in to a wide range of activities to help raise funds for their forthcoming trip to Panama for the ISA Junior World Surfing Games. The event, which runs from 14-22 April, naturally has high costs for attendance. So with very little in the way of official funding it's great to see the groms getting out there themselves.

Surf Action present to the National Gulf Veterans and Families Association
Surf Action the local military charity last week (19-21March) traveled the width of the country to meet and present to the National Gulf Veterans and Families Association (NGVFA) at Butlins in Skegness. Accompanied by Naval veteran Mike Warne, Directors Rich Emerson and Russ Pierre gave a 30-minute presentation to the members of the association and other welfare organisations about the great work they do here in Cornwall.

SAS Challenges Plastics Packaging Industry on Marine Litter Crisis

Skindog's donations to Joe Way appeal help bring total to £98,000
Local international surfer Ben “Skindog” Skinner has donated £2000 to the late Newquay toddlers “Joe Way Appeal”. Joe Way, who was born with a rare genetic condition, was labelled a 'miracle boy' after surviving meningitis, a potentially deadly skin reaction, and numerous superbugs as well as complete organ failure. He died three years ago, after a rapid deterioration in health.

"Mr Surfline" Sean Collins dies at 59
Sad news reached us yesterday with word that Sean Collins, the legendary founder, president and chief forecaster of Surfline had died unexpectedly on Monday. Sean was seen as the instigator of first telephone then internet surf forecasting, and his influence within the industry has been fundamental over the years.

The ASP World Longboard Tour (WLT) Bear Pro presented by Jeep has been won by Kai Sallas (Waikiki, HAW) 30, defeating Taylor Jensen (Coronado, CA) 27, in a high-scoring final 17.17 to 13.50 in clean, small 1-2ft waves at the back up site of Andora, 180kms NW of the main event site in Levanto. Surfers save Challaborough waves
Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) are today stoked to announce a resounding Protect Our Waves victory to safeguard the surfing waves of Challaborough, Devon. Today the Planning Inspectorate could have been deciding the future of the waves at Challaborough. However, SAS contested the proposal to dump rock armoury on Challaborough beach, mobilised the local surfing community and ensured their concerns over this inappropriate coastal defence scheme were heard just in time.
