SELECT SURF REPORT:
Surf Training > Core Training > The Front Plank

The muscles responsible for supporting the spine are the deep spinal stabilizers. More specifically, the deep abdominal and deep muscles stabilise the support of the lower back. By improving core strength via a Swiss ball, the back muscles stay heathly and strong, vital in the most basic surfing movements.

Exercise 3 - The Back Extension

Start position - beginner. Kneel behind the ball with your legs about hip width apart. Drape your body over the ball and roll it slightly forward, then slowly lift your torso off the ball only to the point of tension, dont over-strain.
Once you gain the strength, add a left to right twist off the ball.

To advance the exercise futher, lift your knees off the ball, then keeping your legs straight, lift the torso in line with extended legs.

Note: If you have a back injury or a strain, this exercise should be avoided.

Three or four sets of ten repetitions, with 30 seconds rest between.
