On a recent trip to Newquay for the Gul Night Surf I needed to find some accommodation, but didn't fancy phoning loads of places so did the sensible thing and asked a local.
He recommended the Crescent Surf Lodge. One quick call later and it was sorted.

Later that week, we didn't arrive until well after 10pm as had stopped off for a quick session at Perranporth, but Mark, owner of The Crescent, didn't mind at all and greeted us warmly.

The Crescent Surf Lodge is in Trebarwith Crescent, a surprisingly quiet street, considering it's smack-bang in the centre of Newquay. It's really well placed for all you could need - the shops, pubs, restaurants and clubs are all within a short distance.

It's also half-way between the beaches of Towan and Great Western, so if they're working you can be suited and in the water in minutes.

The Crescent has four bedrooms - a mixture of Doubles and Dormitory styles with bunk beds. A maximum of 14 people stay there at any one time so it's never too crowded. The rooms have sinks and there is a toilet and separate bathroom upstairs, with a further bathroom downstairs.

The communal lounge has several sofas for relaxing on, plus a large plasma screen TV, Playstation and probably one of the largest collection of DVDs in the world, including plenty of surf movies.

And to keep you entertained between surfs or before going out, there is a dartboard and table football - not a flimsy one mind, this is a proper hardcore glass topped one!

There is a kitchen/seating area for guests, with a fridge full of fruit juice and milk, plus a kettle, toaster etc. A great option as it means you can grab breakfast as and when you want it.

Outside is a wooden decked area, with a BBQ for summer cooking and relaxing. There is also a wetsuit hanging area and room to store your boards too. Board/wetsuit hire can also be arranged if needed.

Mark is a qualified surf instructor, which is handy if you or your mates need lessons. He also has contacts with local providers of other activities, such as rock climbing.

We had a great time staying at The Crescent. The rooms were comfortable and the facilities perfect. As with all central Newquay locations parking can be a little tricky at certain times of the year (especially weekends), but we found no trouble most times and even when we did, were able to move the van before the wardens came around in the morning!

So if you're looking for somewhere to stay in Newquay for just a night or several days then check out the Crescent. It's especially good for larger groups as you can all stay together.
