SOUTH WEST AND WALES (and south western Ireland)
Updated 06/09/2010 09:10:08

Small to medium south westerly wind waves peaking midweek and again around the weekend as storms come in. some of the better spots may get into the large range but wave period will be short and quality poor. the lack of groundswell means that sheltered spots will not work very well but should give small clean waves. - SoulSurfer

WEATHER
Strong winds and heavy rain today but becoming drier overnight.

Today:
Heavy rain affecting the far west of Wales gradually spreads east to affect much of the country during the day. Chance of brighter conditions spreading in the southwest later this afternoon. Strong, gusty southeasterly winds ease later.

Tonight:
Persistent, heavy rain gradually clears away northeastwards overnight, to be replaced by drier but still rather cloudy weather. Chance of heavy showers along southern and western coasts by dawn.

Tuesday:
A day of sunny periods and scattered, occasionally heavy and thundery showers across Wales, although most parts will be dry by evening. Winds remain light.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:
Remaining unsettled with sunshine and showers each day, with some of these showers becoming heavy at times. Chance of more persistent rain on Friday. Temperatures remain near normal.

NOTE: The above data is for deep water ocean swells, and does not mean that waves at the beach will be that size or direction. It does however provide a valuable indication of the swell size, direction and winds for the next 72 hours. The most reliable indication of actual conditions is an Eyeball Surf Report, as on most of our surf report pages.

That is included in the forecast for the south coast east of start point. Wave sizes are probably a bit smaller than the best which applies to Kimmeridge and the south west corner of the Isle of wight
